A Free Farmer Style Market for Esquimalt

Our goal is to provide fresh vegetables, fruit, and other food items weekly through a Free Fresh Food Market.

  • The Esquimalt Market has a ticketing system where shopping times are drawn randomly.  Tickets for the market are available after 8:30 am. Your ticket will have your shopping time on it. Return at the time to shop for your groceries. The Market is open from about 11:00 am until 12:30 pm.

  • We have introduced a ticketing system to keep congregating to a minimum in our lineups and to safely distance our market visitors. By allowing only a small block of people to arrive every 15 minutes, the lines are very short and the waiting is greatly reduced.

  • April 2023 is our 4 year anniversary

Our Market

Our project is a community-focused, FREE farmer-style market providing fresh groceries to families, single parents, seniors, or others in Esquimalt on a weekly basis. We are a volunteer-based distribution site that sorts food and runs the market. No such markets exist in the  Victoria West, or View Royal areas.

Based on our three years of experience, we are giving away free fresh groceries to an average of 130 working families, single parents, seniors, and others in Esquimalt.

Esquimalt Neighbourhood House kindly hosts the market in their parking lot on Saturdays.

Living Edge NGO

This project is in cooperation with the Living Edge Markets. Living Edge gathers supplies from a number of grocery stores and food distribution companies to obtain food that is overstocked, close to best before date or donated.  Living Edge delivers food to their partner market sites weekly.

We are committed to a green approach.  We chose a venue close to a bus route, will be filling only reusable bags, and fruit and vegetables not recoverable will be collected and composted.

Instructions on how to best prepare and use the food given at the market will be available to the market patrons.

Become a Financial Partner

If we are a volunteer-run project what are the funds for?

Funds will be used to contribute to the cost of transporting food items by the personnel from Living Edge that travels around the city servicing market sites.

Harbourview Church financially supports a sustainable service to our community. This service is unique in that it provides the items that are the hardest to afford for families – fresh fruit and vegetables.  Your partnership would help us to make this a reality here in our community.

Whether it is $5 a month or possibly a one-time donation of any amount – it all helps. Anything you can contribute will go towards making this project a reality here in Esquimalt.
