There is a growing need among working families, single parents, the elderly, and students for free, fresh groceries in Esquimalt.  LIVING EDGE NGO will supply the food, while we at Harbourview support with volunteers, location, and logistical requirements. Many people right here in Esquimalt will benefit from free, fresh produce weekly.

This is a wonderful opportunity to serve our community and follow Jesus as we express compassion and share the love of Christ in our community.

There is a launch date set for Saturday, Sept 15th at the Esquimalt Neighbourhood House location.  There are lots of things to sort out!  First are you interested in volunteering?

The market will be open from Saturday, September 15th until about the first Saturday in December. It may be open from about 11 am to 12 noon. The exact details have not been determined yet.  It will take about 2.5 hours to set up, sort food, serve the public free groceries, make friends and have some fun children’s activities; then the takedown.

Volunteers will be needed for the various tasks: unloading the van, sorting produce, distributing food to shoppers, clean up, take down and children’s activities.

More details will be shared about the Vision and Mission as things shape up.

We are very thankful for the relationship we have with Neighbourhood House. Not only can we use their parking lot, we have access to their backyard playground, their facility, and storage on site.

All this is as fresh as a newly picked cucumber, so expect that there will be some changes as we approach launch day and probably thereafter.

If you are interested in hearing about what it is like at the Quadra Market the next info meeting is June 26th  7 p.m.  At the Esquimalt Nazarene Church 886 Craigflower.
